I had an Open tournament on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Giammalva Racquet Club in Spring, TX. It was called Giammalva RC Junior Open Tournament (Jr). My first opponent was Angelina Pham. This was her first Green Ball Division match. She had a serve kind of like a slice serve that had some weird spin on it. The ball would bounce really weird, and it was difficult to return. However, I got used to her serves, put the ball back in play. Once the ball was in play, I kept on playing aggressive tennis. I came out on top with a score of 4-0; 4-1 My second opponent was also someone I had never met on the opposite side of net. Anika Sub had very deep, and penetrating groundstrokes. I had a difficult time coming into the net, or finding the right moment to do so. In the meantime, I also hit deep shots to keep her back, because she could also hit winners had I given her short balls. But I won the match 4-1; 4-0 because I attacked her serves, and got many points from that. My third opponent in the final was Taylor Mercer, whom I also had never played against. Taylor hit very powerful flat serves, which I chipped or sliced on the returns. Once the point was in play, I first hit deep shots cross-court in the corners to make her run first. I came up to the net several times, and won a few points when I was at the front court. It was a very good match; a competitive match for both of us. I was fortunate to win the finals, 4-1; 4-0.
I'm trying to keep my personal winning streaks going. I'm proud of all my wins, but also my losses because I'm learning every time I play. I'm moving up; I'm moving forward. And I want to keep going...as long as I'm learning, I'm not losing, someone once told me. With lots of love...<3. Karina Zaharieva |
