Beaumont Tennis Academy Adult & Junior Open

1/21/2018

Comments

I had an open regular ball tournament on Saturday January 20, 2018 called the Beaumont Tennis Academy Adult and Junior Open.

My dad and I woke up early and we drove really early because the tournament site was really far away from Houston--in Beaumont. When we got there, the tournament director told us that my match has been delayed to 9:00 a.m. He also said that all the matches were going to be played indoors since all the outdoor courts were wet from all the rain. I waited impatiently for my match and then finally the clock struck nine.

Outdoor courts...unplayable!
My first opponent was Michelle Li. She had gained some power on her forehand compared to the last time we met. These shots were hard for me to neutralize because I wasn't really confident in my shots especially my slices. I was able to attack her backhand and make her miss. Unfortunately, I lost this match 6-7 (3); 3-6.

This loss felt different than other losses. I was actually disappointed in myself for not thinking or playing according to my plan. I felt guilty for not playing my very best and losing. But, I told myself in my next match, I wasn't going to make the same mistake.

Indoor courts...and I was in too deep. :-o
In that last match, the courts were very slippery. They told us that the matches were delayed because it started raining and the indoor courts were in bad condition. After some more rain, they delayed our matches two more times! In the end they moved all of the matches to Sunday.

My dad and I didn't know what to do! We had to make a decision. We didn't book a hotel, and it was too far to drive home and back. Finally, we decided to withdraw because we didn't properly plan for this tournament to go to Sunday.

My dad was reflecting...on what to do!
I learned two very powerful lessons from this match.
  1. Make sure you have a plan. Analyze your opponents strengths and weaknesses in your head to make a good plan.
  2. Always have a plan B. If your first plan doesn't work make a second one.
This is really important during a match. Oh! I almost forgot the last most important rule. Have fun and play from your heart!

Lots of love! <3
