I had a 2-day regular ball tournament starting on Saturday, February 17, 2018. It was called the Bay Area Racquet Club February Junior Open. My opponent for my first match was someone I have never played before. For some reason, that made me really uncomfortable. I guess I like being prepared for everything. (Says the girl that does everything at the last minute!) Anyway, let me just tell you how my tournament went... My first opponent was Talulah Monthy. I didn't know anything about her game or style. I decided that I would stay consistent until I could figure out a plan. She gave me a lot of free points so I decided to stay consistent and hit a lot of deep balls so she won't be able to attack me. I won 6-0, 6-0. After this match, I started daydreaming about the next one. I thought of a couple strategies I could do. I also gave myself a pep talk. Finally, it was time for my match. My second opponent was Michelle Li. She was a very consistent player that was also not afraid to attack me. I attacked too but most of them made their way into the net or out. I started getting impatient with my shots and started going crazy. It was hard to regain my focus because of how many shots I was missing. I lost my patience completely and lost 4-6, 1-6.
This loss really upsets me. The thing is, with me, that disappointment turns into motivation. Motivation to train and practice harder! Best wishes, Karina Zaharieva |
