A different kind of lesson

It was on a rainy Saturday afternoon, late in September of this year when I had my first guitar lesson with my Coach Tom. He used to play the guitar (and still does, once in a blue moon!), so he wanted to teach me. I thought it would be a good idea because it would help me to relax after a hard days or tennis matches. 

I had my guitar, I was just waiting for a lesson to get started to learn a little bit of how to play it. First, we tuned the guitar. I tried tuning it, and it wan't very difficult. We used a tuning app to help speed up this process.

First things first...right hand study.

Then, my coach turned to a study in my guitar book. He showed me how to play it. Every string he played seemed like it was gonna disappear because the string vibrated so much! I looked at the study, closed my eyes trying to commit to memory the first measure. Then it was my turn to try. With a good guitar posture, I started out not producing clean sounds, seemed like the pitch was off. However, as I kept on trying I got the flow of the music. 

I started slow, but got faster and faster. I did that for the remaining of the measures of the study. When I could play each measure confidently, I added them together and played the entire study from beginning to end. Again, starting out slowly, but then I gradually played faster and faster. I had learned the melody, and had learn the patterns of the music I was playing.

Later that night, I wanted to practice some more.

Even though this is my first time experiencing and learning the music and playing on the guitar, the music melted my heart. The sounds of music soothed my worries (I had a lot of school works and projects!). I was in a different place, where it was just me and the sounds of my guitar.
